Ghostpoet has introduced me to so many artists. Words can’t begin to describe just how impeccable this man’s musical taste is; his album Peanut Butter Blues and Melancholy Jam helped spawn the underground post-dubstep movement in London (see also: Joy Orbison, Mount Kimbie, James Blake).
When I first heard Functions on the Low on his Ghost Tape Vol. 7 (you should listen to them all), I paused the mixtape and proceeded to listen to the East London-based supergroup’s White Label Classics front-to-back. Apparently I’m an idiot, because Ruff Sqwad has been around since 2001 and are some of the forefathers of grime.
